Our Grant Program
We are actively working toward securing contributions and building a sustainable grant program to offer holistic support for financial, mental health, and academic needs. As funding allows, we plan to select applicants from a semi-randomized pool, prioritizing those who meet socio-economic disadvantage criteria, such as having required Medicaid, housing assistance, food aid, or refugee support. Applicants must also provide documentation verifying Afghan descent. To ensure equitable distribution of funds, we will consider both the demographics of Afghan-Americans in the U.S. and the diverse ethnic groups of Afghanistan. Although our events are Tampa-based, scholarships are open to Afghan-Americans throughout the U.S.
Types of Support
Financial Support: Assistance is based on the estimated cost of living in your region or college area, considering local poverty levels compared to median income. This ensures that aid is aligned with individual financial needs.
Mental Health Support
We are committed to offering resources and covering costs for mental health care that insurance does not fully address. Due to the scope of our resources, we currently focus on supporting conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, depression, and family-related challenges. We encourage individuals facing other mental health conditions to seek specialized professional care. Support will be personalized based on each individual's needs. While our program cannot support conditions involving psychosis or delusions, we encourage individuals facing these challenges to seek specialized professional care.
Academic Support
In addition to offering financial aid for tuition and tutoring, we strive to connect recipients with professionals in their fields of interest. We will help facilitate mentorship and internship opportunities to provide real-world experience and guidance.
Selection Process
Applicants will be assigned a number, and a weighted random selection will be used, with weights reflecting the demographic distribution of Afghan-Americans in the U.S. This process helps ensure fairness while considering the needs of underrepresented ethnic groups within the Afghan community.
Privacy Statement
We are committed to protecting the privacy of all applicants. Personal information and documentation submitted for verification purposes will be kept confidential and used solely for the purposes of evaluating grant applications and administering the grant program. We will not share personal information with third parties without the applicant's consent, except as required by law.
We are excited to continue building partnerships and growing our capacity to provide direct financial support in the near future. In the meantime, we invite you to join us in this journey by participating in our networking opportunities and advocacy efforts.
